Social Media & Fund Development Intern

Description: will be instrumental in increasing our social media presence and getting visibility for the Jackson Zoo. The intern will also assist with Annual Fund programs & projects and will be supervised by the Director of Major Gifts & Annual Fund.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Aggregate and/or create article and video content
  • Communicate exciting social media news (internal and external)
  • Update mobile website and add additional content
  • Organize event functions that will help the Jackson Zoo
  • Directly solicit support from potential supporters
  • Monitor and engage on various social media platforms
  • Update website pages
  • Promote and market the Jackson Zoo effectively
  • Help assist with direct annual fund programs & projects

Qualifications:

  • Familiar with Twitter, Facebook, WordPress and YouTube
  • Passionate about helping the Jackson Zoo achieve financial goals.
  • Outgoing personality, engage people in conversations of support
  • Must be detail oriented, team player and technologically savvy
  • Must be comfortable with computers, software editing, video cameras

Guidelines:

  • Estimated weekly hours are 10-20 hours per week
  • Minimum 3-month (semester) commitment
  • Intern can work remotely, on his/her own computer
  • Up to two interns at a time

Education Animal Care Intern

Description: Will provide animal care and perform husbandry training tasks to a large collection of exotic and domesticate animals within the education department.

 Responsibilities Include:

  • Provide daily care to all education animals
  • Keep accurate records for all education animals
  • Perform husbandry training
  • Provide enrichments for animals
  • Interact with guests using education animals

Qualifications:

  • Ability to stand for long periods of time and carry 20 pounds
  • Willing to work hands on with an exotic and domestic animal collection
  • Background in animal and wildlife sciences
  • Passionate about wildlife

Guidelines:

  • 4 month (semester) commitment
  • Work Monday – Friday 8:00 am – 12:00 pm and one Saturday a month
