Animal Programs

Make your field trip a full, educational experience with a special live-animal program! Our Animal Programs are a great way to incorporate standards with your field trip. Each 30-minute interactive program includes discussion, bio-facts and an up-close animal encounter.


  • It’s Alive (Grades K-2)

    • Hop, squiggle and walk, our animals will do it all in this program to show what being alive is all about. Come and see firsthand what it takes to be alive and get an up close encounter with these living critters.

  • It’s Classified (Grades K-2)

    • Birds, reptiles, mammals, they’re all classified. Get an up close encounter with these animals and see for yourself what makes each animal group so special.

  • Mississippi’s Wild Web (Grades 3-5)

    • Have you ever wondered what might be living in your back yard? Here in Mississippi it could be anything from otters to owls! Discover how these native animals live together during this look into their lives.

  • Survival of the Fittest (Grades 3-5)

    • It’s a wild world out there and animals have to have some pretty special abilities in order to survive. Explore animal habitats and see how animal’s bodies are designed to help them compete in the game of life.

  • You Belong in a Zoo! (Grades 5-12)

    • Yes, you! What kinds of jobs do people do at the zoo? Why should you visit? Ever wonder why we have zoos? Why are there some animals here, but not others? All of these are great questions; the answers will tell you at least one reason why you belong here, at the zoo!
  • Animal Taxonomy (Grades 9-12)

    • What’s the difference between a ferret and mouse? A lizard and a gecko? During this interactive program, your students will learn the answer to this question and more as they discover how and why animals are classified the way they are.
    • Academic Standards: Zoology: Life Science 2.a and 2.b


$35 per program. Each program can accommodate up to 35 students.


  • Animal Programs are available Monday-Saturday at 9:30am, 10:30am and 11:30am.
  • Programs are booked on a first come, first serve basis.
  • All programs must be booked at least two weeks in advance.
  • All programs must be paid for at least one week in advance or your program will be cancelled.
  • In the event of a cancellation made by your organization less than one week before the scheduled program date, a $25 per program processing fee will be retained by the Jackson Zoo.
