May 7 – Member Appreciation Day 

A day dedicated to our Zoo members. Member’s children are invited to become honorary Zoo Keepers! Guest will spend time with Zoo Keepers and participate in other educational opportunities. Participants will receive a certificate of completion at the end of this unique experience. Contact ejrivers@jacksonzoo.org for more info.

May 8 – Mother’s Day

Celebrate mom’s special day with a trip to the Zoo on Mother’s Day! Moms receive ½ off admission with a paying child.

May 22 – 22q at the Zoo

Organized and developed by The International 22q11.2 Foundation, 22q at the Zoo is an event that gives families, friends and professionals a chance to socialize, network and raise the public profile of chromosome 22q11.2 syndromes.

Volunteers spread awareness by handing out 22q fact sheets and educating anyone interested enough to stop and ask about 22q. The event kicks off in New Zealand and continues westward ending in the South Pacific having literally circled the globe. Participants are recognizable, wearing the official “22q at the Zoo” red T-shirt and “Ask me about 22q” buttons.

22q at the Zoo – Worldwide Awareness Day is a day to remember, a day to celebrate, a day to make friends while creating awareness, and most importantly a day to stand together.

May 28-30 – Memorial Day

The Jackson Zoo will mark Memorial Day by offering 1/2 off admission for military veterans and active military personnel. Visitors must show a military or veteran organization ID, discharge papers or other official military identification.

June 15 – Dream Night

In partnership with St. Dominic Health Services, the Mississippi disAbility MegaConference, and the Mississippi Council on Developmental Disabilities the Jackson Zoo hosts a private evening for children with special needs and their families. Train and carousel rides, magician, keeper chats and animals encounters, refreshments provided by local restaurants. MUST Pre-register to attend http://ow.ly/10A9WQ

June 19 – Father’s Day

Celebrate Dad’s special day with a trip to the Zoo!  Dads receive ½ off admission with a paying child.

July 4 – Red, White, & Blue Day

Celebrate America’s Birthday with a day at the Zoo! Wear red, white & blue to the zoo on July 4th and receive $5 admission (adults & kids).

July 9 – Ice Cream Safari

Now in its 22cd year, this event has featured our local media celebrities and special guest showing off their personalities and scooping favorite Blue Bunny flavors for your votes.   Other activities include face painting, carousel rides, train rides, splash pad, bounce houses, and more!

July 18-22 – Zoo Keeper’s Week

We recognize and promote dedicated zoo and aquarium professionals year round, culminating in an annual celebration during the third week in July – National Zoo Keeper Week.

Aug. 6 – Splash into School

Our annual end of summer event provides splashing entertainment and activities before its time to hit the books again.  Large water slides and slip-n-slides located in amphi-theater area, DJ dance party, face painting, water activities and more.  There will be educational organizations and other vendors providing information and back to school supplies or giveaways.   Regular admission includes all activities.

Sept. 3-5 – Frozen Treat Animal Enrichment Day

Visit zoo keeper chats throughout the day and see what special frozen treats our zoo keepers left for all the animals. Our annual Labor Day event.

Sept. 22 – Zoo Party Unleashed

This annual fundraiser held at Highland Village will bring awareness to the needs of the zoo.   Lots of good food, great music and more during this adult only event! Must be 21 and up to attend. Corporate sponsorships preferred; $75/person-individual tickets.

Oct. 22 & 23 – Boo at the Zoo 

The Zoo’s version of “trick or treat”, this event is open to the public for regular zoo admission to provide a safe, fun atmosphere for your children to celebrate Halloween.   Business and organizations will be solicited to come in and provide décor, activities and candy for their individual stations. Family friendly costumes are encouraged, parade of costumes will be held nightly at 6:30p on the Amphi- theater stage and Monster Mash Dance party nightly at 7:30p.  General admission includes all activities; members $3.

Nov. 11 – Veteran’s Day

Celebrate Veteran’s special day with a trip to the Zoo! Military persons receive ½ off adult admission; must present I.D.

Dec. 10 – Cookies with Santa

The zoo’s annual Christmas event, children are invited for an afternoon to visit with Santa, decorate a sugar cookie, holiday crafts, and story time.  Animals will be given special enrichment items to celebrate the holiday, as well. Santa will be visiting from 1-3. Activities taking place in the Gertrude C. Ford Education Center at the Jackson Zoo.
