Capital Foundation
The Jackson Zoo Foundation was founded in 2002 in conjunction with the zoo’s first major capital fund campaign to receive private contributions and distribute them for capital expenditures. The Foundation raised $1.5 million as part of an $7 million ($4 million from the State of Mississippi and $1.5 million from the City of Jackson) first phase of improvements at the Jackson Zoo; which includes a new zoo entrance, expanded African Savannah and Mississippi Wilderness exhibit. A new education space is now open, the Gertrude C Ford Center has classrooms and a display hall of interactive displays for school children and for families.
The Foundation is seeking donations for ongoing zoo improvements. Currently funds are being raised to update areas for amur leopards, gibbons, tapirs and to renovate sections of the Discovery Zoo.
