Work with the Jackson Zoo
The Jackson Zoo Animal Care team is currently looking for a full time animal care specialist, with an immediate start date. This is a very physical position that requires weekends and holidays, teamwork, and a strong background in the biological sciences and animal care. Keepers are responsible for daily care of animals (diet preparation and feeding, exhibit and night house cleaning), plus general upkeep of space and greenery with the respect to the needs of the animal, as well as interaction with the general public in an educational capacity as needed. They are also highly encouraged to remain abreast of current accredited care protocols and the latest research from reputable educational facilities while taking direction from Animal Care supervisory staff. You must be able to lift 50 lbs or more, be on your feet for extended periods of time, and work various equipment during the day. The competitive hourly wage depends on experience level (previous zoo work a plus), and benefits are available after a probationary period. Bachelors degree preferred, but all applicants must be 18 years of age with a high school diploma or equivalent.
