Work with the Jackson Zoo
The Jackson Zoo Animal Care team is currently looking for a full time animal care specialist, with an immediate start date. This is a very physical position that requires weekends and holidays, teamwork, and a strong background in the biological sciences and animal care. Keepers are responsible for daily care of animals (diet preparation and feeding, exhibit and night house cleaning), plus general upkeep of space and greenery with the respect to the needs of the animal, as well as interaction with the general public in an educational capacity as needed. They are also highly encouraged to remain abreast of current accredited care protocols and the latest research from reputable educational facilities while taking direction from Animal Care supervisory staff. You must be able to lift 50 lbs or more, be on your feet for extended periods of time, and work various equipment during the day. The competitive hourly wage depends on experience level (previous zoo work a plus), and benefits are available after a probationary period.

The Jackson Zoo Security team is currently looking for a part time ranger (full time possible with the right candidate), with an immediate start date. This position requires applicant to be at least 21 years of age, have a high school diploma or equivalent, ability to work overnights, weekends, and holidays, effective communication skills, the ability to stand for extended periods of time and lift at least 50 lbs, and previous experience in the security field is necessary, with public service or military a plus. The competitive hourly wage depends on experience level, and benefits are available after a probationary period. Drug tests and background checks are required.
Zoo Rangers are responsible for the safety of our animals, staff, guests, and grounds 24 hours a day, seven days a week, and 345 days every year. From interacting with guests during regular business hours to night watch, we depend on our Rangers to help provide visitors with a quality recreational and educational environment dedicated to wildlife care and conservation.

Do you like people as much as you like animals? Do you like spending time in the outdoors and letting visitors know all about the wonderful Jackson Metro area we call home? Our Admissions/Gift Shop is looking to hire fun and friendly people ages 16 and up! If you are dependable, responsible, and need some extra money this spring, summer, and fall, the Jackson Zoo can use your skills and personality! This is a part time job that has the possibility of becoming full time for the right person, especially if you don’t mind working weekends or some holidays! VOLUNTEER AND INTERNSHIP OPPORTUNITIES
There are many areas of the zoo where volunteers are needed: landscaping, facilities, education, special events, and Discovery Zoo. Although most often people think of spring and summer volunteering, there are some opportunities throughout the year. (There are even a few paid internships available for qualified candidates through the MS Department of Employment Security.)
