Our first weekend open to the public was SOLD OUT and SO MUCH FUN! It was great see so many smiling faces, and many of the animals seemed just as interested in all the action as the people!

Because we have such a small staff, it took a LOT of extra hands to make it possible for us to open our gates, and we want to give a big shout out for all their help: TNT JXN Screenprinting * Glass Plus * Signs First Metro Jackson * Brown Bottling * Zoo Area Progressive Partnership and the City of Jackson Parks & Recreation crews, led by Director Ison Harris Jr

Important COVID-19 Guidelines

  • ADMISSION MUST BE SECURED ONLINE. Only 500 tickets and JZ Member reservations are allowed per day, and MUST be arranged BEFORE arrival online in our SHOP. Tickets need to be used on a specific date. Walk ups and incorrectly dated tickets are not guaranteed entry.
  • FACE MASKS ARE REQUIREDunless medically or physically exempt for humans over the age of 2 years old, per CDC guidleines. NOTE: Until animal experts can find a way to make a tiger or a chimp wear a mask, all humans in the park will need to comply. We understand that some human children are very much like our animals when it comes to wearing a mask, but we ask that you try, maybe using the visit as practice to help keep our beloved animals safe.
  • All guests and staff must abide by the 6′ social distancing measures at all times.
  • Guests must follow the adjusted directional park trail (download current park map HERE
  • All high-volume public rooms and spaces remain closed until further notice: Playgrounds, Gertrude C Ford Education Building, Water Creatures, Backyard Creatures, and Splash Pad.
  • Gift Shop will have touch free outside access, and rides on the Endangered Species Carousel are limited and socially distanced with pretty bows, courtesy of Zoo Area Progressive Partnership ZAPP. (The Livingston Train is currently not running, but scheduled to return.)
  • Dippin’DotsBrick Street Pops, and concessions from Sweet Taste’N will be available for purchase near the cafe seating area. (Masks are optional WHILE SEATED at the cafe.) Pepsi drink vending machines are also on grounds.
  • No outside food or coolers are allowed inside the zoo, and all goodies must remain at the Cafe seating area. Social distancing rules must be followed while seated.
  • Staff cleaning schedules have been increased for regular disinfecting, but we ask that you try not to touch windows or signs, if possible.
  • We’ve added several sanitizing stations throughout the park.

Why We Ask People to Wear Masks

Because we are outdoors, many have asked us why the staff wears masks, and why we still ask all our guests to wear masks unless they are seated at the cafe.

We are an attraction that is home to over 200 animals that cannot wear a mask to protect themselves from illness. Therefore, we humans NEED to wear them, even if we are outdoors.

We want to be open to the public, as our animals and humans need each other for enrichment. However, COVID-19 is still far from predictable, and until we can be assured the safety of our residents, we will continue to require masks of all humans in the park.

Masks are sold at Admissions (2 for $1), and VisitJackson has donated cloth masks for our JZ Members. If you are over the age of 2 years old and are seen walking in the park without a mask, you will be asked by passing staff to either wear one, or if you have a medical exemption.

Our job is to keep these animals healthy. Please help us do it.
